What is the Best Beach in Sarasota?

What makes the Best beach in Sarasota? The Siesta Key sand is amazing!

What makes the Best beach in Sarasota? The Siesta Key sand is amazing!

What is the Best Beach in Sarasota?

Not only is Siesta Key the best beach in Sarasota, it’s quite possibly the best beach in the nation!

Siesta Key Beach is constantly winning accolades from big news publications and travel companies worldwide! The incredible characteristics of the sand and surrounding environment makes Siesta Key a consistent contender for the top beaches to visit in the country.

The sand is 99% pure quartz, soft and cool on the feet.

Siesta Beach is located on Beach Road on Siesta Key. Siesta Beach is known as one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world.  At the “Great International White Sand Beach Challenge” held in 1987, it was recognized as having the “whitest and finest sand in the world.”

A panoramic photograph of Siesta Beach on an overcast day in December 2012, which illustrates the characteristic white sand and expansive width of the beach (wikipedia.com)

Unlike beaches elsewhere that are made up mostly of pulverized coral, Siesta Beach’s sand is 99% quartz. Even on the hottest days, the sand is so reflective that it feels cool underfoot. It’s estimated that the sand on Siesta Beach and Crescent Beach on Siesta Key is millions of years old, having its origin in the Appalachians and flowing down the rivers from the mountains until it eventually was deposited on the shores of Siesta Key.

Shallow water depth in the near shore area together with year round lifeguard protection, makes this one of the safest beaches in the county and great for small children. Siesta Key, Crescent Beach, Siesta Beach and Turtle Beach are accessible from the North Bridge at Siesta Drive or the South Bridge at Stickney Point Road. Siesta Key is an eight mile barrier island graced with two more beaches, Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach… as well as exotic flowers, magnificent banyan trees and preserved mangrove shores where ibis, snowy egrets and herons claim refuge for their young.

Just a few of the honors Siesta Key has received:

Siesta Key is a destination for travelers worldwide and should be on the top of your list of beaches to visit! Surrounding this incredible beach is a beautiful island of small condos and hotels. There are also the two small villages packed with lively entertainment, fine dining, beachy restaurants and excellent shopping. It is a tourist and local favorite for sure.

Check with our friendly, local staff for recommendations on activities, dining, and other information. Rooms are available for daily rentals. Call today for specials and room information at 800-235-3493

Experiencing the Best of Nature in Sarasota, FL

Manatee viewing near Sarasota, FL Sarasota is alive with exceptional blessings from Mother Nature. From one corner of the city to the next, the beauty and wonder of all that Mother Nature has created is bountiful. From the local flora to the local fauna, there are so many ways to take full advantage of being able to see these things that amaze and to make incredible memories.

Here are some of our favorite places to visit to experience the best that Sarasota has to offer:

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens: The Gardens are located in downtown Sarasota on the Bay. Their mission? “To provide an oasis of inspiration and tranquility, while furthering the understanding and appreciation of plants, especially epiphytes.” Now if that doesn’t sound like the perfect way to spend an afternoon, we don’t know what does. From the greenhouses to the immaculately maintained grounds, Selby Gardens is an experience you don’t want to miss. Sweeping views of the bay, brilliant aromas from the many plant species, wonderment from the stunning growth of the different trees, and tranquility from the peace and serenity of the property will take you away from the hustle and bustle. Allow several hours for this afternoon of enjoyment.

Myakka River State Park: Located just 9 miles from Sarasota and is one of Florida’s oldest and largest state parks. The Florida wild and scenic Myakka flows through 57 square miles of wetlands, prairies and woodlands. Myakka is popular for hiking, fishing, camping, and wildlife observation. One of its most popular types of wildlife observation is that of the Florida alligator! Many gators can be seen sunning and swimming around while being viewed from one of the world’s largest airboats, the Myakka Maiden or the Gator Gal. They can also be seen while just paddling through the streams by canoe, for those of you who are brave enough! There is also the Canopy Walkway. The walkway is suspended 25 feet above the ground and extends 100 feet through the hammock canopy. A tower soars 74 feet in the air to present a spectacular view of treetops, wetlands and the prairie/hammock interface. You can look down on eagles, hawks, vultures and the tops of live oaks and palm trees.

Manatee Viewing Center: Located about 1 hour North of Sarasota, the Manatee Viewing Center is located adjacent to the Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station. Everyone loves to see these gentle giants. When the water begins to get chillier, somewhere around 68 degrees, the manatees seek refuge in warmer waters. When the Big Bend Power station takes in saltwater from Tampa Bay to cool Unit 4, it is then discharged as clean and warm water, back to the bay. Big Bend’s discharge canal is a state and federally designated manatee sanctuary that provides critical protection from the cold for these unique, gentle animals.

Let our local, knowledgeable staff help you with these or any other activities during your visit to Tropical Beach Resorts in Siesta Key, Sarasota, FL.

What Are The Best Ways To Enjoy Nature While Staying At A Sarasota Hotel?

Sarasota is not only Florida’s cultural capital, but a tropical, nature wonderland as well. There are so many ways to explore the abounding beauty.  Here are a few of our favorites.

Spend time on our world-famous beaches, renowned for their cool, powder white sands. If you’re lucky enough to be staying at a Sarasota hotel near the beach, you can spend your mornings strolling along the water’s edge with coffee in hand. You’ll find horse conch, lightning whelks, pink shrimp and seahorses in knee-deep water. Your companions will likely be gulls overhead, dolphins frolicking in the waters and sandpipers, oyster catchers and roseate spoonbills. Grab a fresh cup of coffee from the office or make some from the in-room coffee service and take a morning stroll. Enjoy the sunshine with your loved one and greet the day on Crescent Beach’s stellar sand.  Walking hand in hand on World Famous Crescent Beach is the perfect way to start the day!

Go paddle boarding, a peaceful way to commune with our marvelous finned and feathered friends. It provides opportunities for discovering oyster beds, fish breeding areas and unspoiled, hidden pockets teeming with marine life. Dolphins are plentiful here; there’s a good chance you’ll see some playfully leaping nearby. You might even see the moon face of a manatee staring up at you in wonder. Paddle boarding with friends or family is such an incredible experience. You’ll feel a singular sense of inner peace and beauty. The power of the water and the force of the board through the surf is so magical. Seeing all the beautiful water and its surroundings will complete the aquatic adventure making memories that will last forever.  For private lessons or Pilates Paddle board contact Studio RubyLakes.

Kayak the mangroves. Nothing can bring you closer to nature than kayaking our mysterious mangroves. A kayaking excursion can put you face to face with egrets, turns, wood storks, pelicans, dolphins, manatee and other wildlife. What you see you will treasure with your heart. Rentals are available for ocean kayaking as well from the hotel’s beach service on the beach access.  http://youtu.be/y4w__Ua139E

SiestaKey hotel sees growth in yearly numbers

Tropical Beach Resorts along with Sarasota county has seen another year of growth in our total number of visitors this year.

According to Visit Sarasota County (VSC), Sarasota County had 740,300 visitors in fiscal year 2013, spending $640,974,200 in the area economy. That is a 5.8% jump in visitors from fiscal year 2012 and a 10.2% increase in direct spending.
Tropical Beach Resorts is pleased that business is up.

The 2013 fiscal year ended June 30. Data from the Sarasota County Tax Collector also paints a positive picture for the area tourism industry.

With three months of revenue left to be calculated for 2013, Sarasota County has already raised $12,179,818 in revenue from the Tourist Development Tax — eclipsing the total revenue reported for 2011. This comes after multiple years of increased revenues from the tax. Development Tax revenue grew by 16% in 2011, and by 17.5% in 2012.

The Tourist Development Tax is a 5% charge on the revenue from rentals of six months or less. Revenue from the tax is used for tourism promotion, maintenance and renourishment of beach park facilities and beaches, sports stadiums, nature center facilities and promoting new tourist attractions and events.

Projects like the proposed dredging of Big Pass also rely on Development Tax revenue.
Tropical Beach Resorts General Manager said.” We are very pleased business continues to improve. We’ve done so many upgrades to the property and have continued to grow a talented staff… we couldn’t be happier it’s paying off.”
