Siesta Key Resort Vacation Tips

There are more health benefits to a day on the beach than you realized!

The beach is obviously one of the best vacation and relaxing spots on the planet, but it is also a very healthy choice of location and activity. The beach can help your skin, brain strength, muscles and overall health if you know the best way to utilize it.

benefits of salt water and beaches

Benefits of salt water and beaches

The Salt Water:
How does a swim in the ocean benefit your body?
1. Sea water does wonders for acne and semi-permanent scars. Salt helps cure, clear and cleanse which is great news for your teenager’s breakouts or your scratches from that friend’s cat you tried to pick up last week.
2. Salt water is a natural shampoo. The salt cleanses the oils from your hair and scalp. Taking a dip in the ocean can add volume, get rid of dandruff or built up chemicals, and strip unnecessary oils from your hair. A visit to the beach can be the best treatment for an oily scalp or an overuse of products weighing down your hair.
3. Salt water heals cuts and soars. The salt water will cleanse any cuts of toxins and dry out pus.
4. It clears your nasal passage ways. Often when I was sick as a kid my dad would take me to the beach… Weird, I know. But it was probably one of the best things he could have done for me. The first relates to the sun, which I will touch on later, but the second is because the salt water unstuffs your nose! Doctors even will prescribe mixing salt and water into a little gadget that filters out the mucus from your nostrils; but, who needs that when you can hop in the ocean?!
5. Swimming in the sea water helps you stay fit and in good health. This one is a bit obvious, but none the less very accurate! It burns a ton of calories and uses many muscles in your body that aren’t used in any other exercises.

The Sand:
What does this fluffy white stuff on Siesta Key have to offer to my health?
1. Sand is a natural exfoliant. You never leave the beach not covered in sand right? This is actually a great thing because this natural exfoliant will keep your skin healthy and help the breakouts. Your body is constantly getting rid of dead skin cells, so it is important that you exfoliate to keep your pores open and your skin soft.
2. You burn up to fifty percent more calories walking in the sand and your muscles tone much faster. If you are going to exercise, why not do it with a beautiful view!
3. Being buried in sand increases your body’s resistance and raises your circulation and metabolism. That’s right, I am giving you an excuse to let your kids burry you in the sand… You won’t look that ridiculous!

Benefits of the Sun

Benefits of the Sun

The Sun:
But I thought sun bathing was just to get that nice golden tan?
1. Being in the sun stimulates vitamin D production. Vitamin D helps reduce the risk of cancer, heart attacks, Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, and depression while boosting your immune system, combating type II Diabetes and fighting acne. IMPORTANT: Do not forget to keep applying sunscreen through out the day! Especially in the Siesta Key area where the UV rays are very strong. The closer you are the equator the stronger the UV. So, if you’re visiting from Wisconsin and think you can last the day without sunscreen, you are very wrong! Many of my family members have made that mistake because they know how their skin can hold up in the sun where they are from, but I promise it is different here. You don’t want to spend your vacation with a crippling sunburn after day one of thinking your skin is invincible, it will not be fun!
2. Heat from the sun makes you sweat, which in turn raises circulation and metabolism. Sweat also releases toxins to keep you healthy.
3. The sun makes you happier! Having high levels of Vitamin D helps your body maintain high levels of serotonin, which helps you be in a good mood. It’s no wonder people come back from a beach vacation much happier.
TIP: Remember to shower and moisturize after a day at the beach. This will avoid the salt drying out your skin and it will also help hold in the color you got from sun bathing!

5 Reasons to Visit Siesta Key & Sarasota

Siesta Key Beach

5 reasons to visit Siesta Key

Great Food & Drinks: Siesta Key has an abundance of amazing restaurants with great food and drinks. The island has everything from delicious, fresh seafood and steak to a more casual vibe offering fish tacos and burgers. The Key is a great place to be whether you are looking for a fancy date night or a casual night out for drinks.

The Weather: There really isn’t a bad time to visit Siesta Key! Visiting during our summer months is a great time to cool off at our famous white sand beach. Enjoy leaving the snow behind and visit in our winter months for a comfortable fall-like feeling. There is always something to do in the area!

Myakka River State Park: This is both a local and visitor favorite. The picturesque Myakka State Park in Sarasota hosts 35 miles of river filled with amazing wildlife. Rent a bike or canoe, go on a boat tour, walk any of the numerous walking trails, visit the bird walk, the tree top canopy walk, restaurant and gift shop! If you need a break from the beach, camping in the state park could be just what you need to unwind! The park is filled with amazing wildlife including alligators, turkey, deer, turtles, and an abundance of different birds.

Ringling: we can’t talk about Sarasota without including the Ringling Brothers! Sarasota has been home to the famous Ringling Brothers Circus since 1927 when John Ringling made this the official winter training quarters. With this comes the Ringling Museum, Ringling College of Art and Design, and the Ca’ d’Zan mansion- meaning “House of John”- a Venetian Gothic style mansion designed and lived in by John Ringling himself. Tours are given daily at both the museum and mansion.

Siesta Key Beach: We are proud to host Siesta Key Beach, which has been rated the #1 beach in the country due to its sparkling Gulf of Mexico waters, soft, white sand, and relaxed vibe. Siesta Key has over 100 acres of Gulf beach, year-round life guards, and is just a short walk away from restaurants, bars, shopping, and Tropical Beach Resorts of course!

Do I need a car when I visit Siesta Key?

Do I need a car when I come to Siesta Key?

Siesta Key Beach

Siesta Key Beach

This is a very frequently asked question of the guests coming to visit us here at Tropical Beach Resorts. It is really a personal preference depending on what you are planning to do while you are visiting our little slice of island paradise. But here are some tips and facts to help with your decision.

Siesta Key is a 7 mile barrier island off the southern end of Siesta Key. The island is about 11 Miles, or a 20 minute drive from Sarasota Airport (airport code ‘SRQ’). There are all the major rental car companies available at the Sarasota Airport. A taxi ride from the airport is approximately $30-$35. We suggest having the ride set up prior to landing to avoid waiting and ease of transportation. We recommend using the service Night Ride, they have nice town cars and the drivers are knowledgeable of the island and our resort specifically. Check them out at www.newnightride.com or call them at 941-922-0400.

If you are traveling into Tampa Airport or St. Pete/Clearwater Airport, the distance is a solid hour drive. Shuttles are available for around $90 plus gratuity for groups of 2-4. Larger groups will need to secure vans, which are an add’l expense. There are all the major rental car companies at both airports. You have some options here…you can keep the car the entirety of your stay or some people will get one-way rentals and drop them off at Sarasota Airport and then taxi to the hotel. For private cars, check out www.newnightride.com or for shuttle rides, we suggest www.supershuttle.com. The shuttles offer either shared rides, which are a bit cheaper or you can reserve the entire shuttle for larger parties.

If you are at the hotel and you decide you need a car to go on a Sarasota adventure, there is an Enterprise Rent-a-Car right off the island and they will come to the hotel and pick you up. This is good if you only need a car for part of your stay (www.enterprise.com). Nearby attractions include MOTE Aquarium, Selby Gardens, Ringling Museum, Myakka State Park, St. Armands Circle, just to name a few!

Once you are on the island, there are a number of free shuttle services which work on a gratuity-only system. They run from early morning until after the bars and restaurants close. There are a great way to get around the island and not have to worry about parking, which can sometimes be tricky during holidays and on weekends. They will pick you up here at the hotel and then you can just call when you are ready to come back.

Sun Ride Pedi Cab

Sun Ride Pedi Cab

There are so many activities within walking distance of the hotel, if you are coming to the island to just kick back and relax, you will be in good shape! There is a grocery store, 7-11, drug store, post office, plenty of shops, restaurants and bars which you can walk to within 10-15 mins or less! And if you are just looking to hit the beach, the rooms are only a minute to three minute walk from the sand. There is a local marina that rents pontoon or motorboats to explore the intercoastal, you can go parasailing, jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, biking, the outdoor activities are endless! There is the Siesta Key Village which is 3 miles north of the Tropical Beach Resorts, which has an abundance of other stores, restaurants and bars.

There are also plenty of local restaurants that deliver to the hotel, so you never have to leave the property if you don’t want to. We also have a service that will stock up your room with groceries or other gifts, such as flowers, etc.

Contact the friendly staff here at Tropical Beach Resorts for more information on specifics or other questions you might have! 800-235-3493

You need a vacation, and here are 5 reasons why!

Your body wants you to go on vacation, and here are 5 Facts about Vacation that you need to know! For your own good:) Americans forfeit 226 million vacation days each year, according to CNN, by not using the vacation days they earned. In fact, all of that unused time off adds up to $34.3 billion annually in lost vacation days. Now that is one of the worst facts we have ever heard….Read on!

Siesta Key Sunlight is free!

Siesta Key Sunlight is free!

Vitamin D from sunlight is free
Vitamin D is essential for maintaining healthy bones and keeping the immune systems and nervous system functioning normally. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin made by the body, in the skin, from exposure to sunlight. While this essential nutrient is available as a supplement, spending some time outdoors each day (as little as 5-15 minutes) can provide the needed benefits. And trust us, you get lots of sun on this island! The best part: the sun is free! Grab a beach chair and hit the shores. Further, preliminary research suggests Vitamin D can help prevent various forms of cancer, including breast, prostate and colon cancers. So soak up that Siesta Key Sun and get your Vitamin D!

Siesta Key Vacation time shrinks stress
Isn’t it time for you to take a Siesta Key break? Vacation helps shrink stress and anxiety while also boosting the mental and physical health of the entire family. We need a brain break, a detour from deadlines and a timeout from technology! It takes effort to unplug from the ever-spinning world around us, but one’s mind, body and spirit will be renewed by re-plugging into the joys of quality time with family and friends.

Special Vacation Time with Family or Spouses enrich relationships
People who take frequent vacations tend to spend more time with their spouse and children and are more satisfied with their marriages. Taking that quality together time to get away from the hustle and bustle enriches relationships as the memories made and time together is more focused without the constant stress of everyday life. People share the relaxing time together and in turn, life is better all around. Everyone always says: “Life is Better at the Beach.”

Longer stays tend to be more relaxing
It usually takes people 2 to 3 days to really relax and get into the groove of vacation time. Longer vacations are associated with greater psychological benefits than shorter ones, so try to plan a break that’s at least 7 days. Now really, what would be better than 7 days of Florida fun and sunshine? There are so many activities to do off the beach too, like amusement parks, museums, state parks, sporting events, and tons of shopping!

Your body needs to relax and rejuvenate
Vacation time helps to reset your body clock and promote healthy sleeping habits. This is because chronic stress can slowly eat away at your sleep time, leaving you unaware of just how much sleep you end up missing each night. Getting out of that rut and taking a breather helps you get used to a full night’s restful sleep and resets your body clock to a healthy schedule.  At Tropical Beach Resorts, we have super comfy new beds in all the rooms and fluffy, soft sheets and blankets. You will leave feeling refreshed and maybe even wanting to buy a new bed!

So, after reading these facts, we hope that you now know that there are health reasons that you should be paying attention to for your own well-being and you can tell you boss that it is for the good of everyone around that you take that much needed break.

Give our friendly, helpful staff at Tropical Beach Resorts a call today to book your special trip to our piece of paradise, here on Siesta Key. We’ll see you soon!

What is the Village that everyone is talking about!?

Siesta Key Village

Siesta Key Village

Siesta Key Village is in the heart of Siesta Key with designer shopping, local dining, laidback nightlife and more! Located just steps from the beachfront, The Village is a quaint and cool island strip where there is just enough to explore but not so large that you feel overwhelmed. By your second visit you will feel like a local!

The village is the perfect spot to take a break during your beach day and get a bite to eat at one of the outdoor restaurants or grab an ice cream cone at the popular SubZero Ice Cream. Need more sunscreen, towels, beach toys for the kids or some souvenirs from your trip? You’ll have plenty of shops that you can browse through that will have a plethora of Siesta Key shirts, hats, bumper stickers, you name it, so you can truly embrace being a tourist at the most beautiful beach in America. But don’t worry, there are more to the shops in the Village than touristy sea shells and postcards, there are also unique stores and trendy boutiques. Treat yourself to a trendy new designer dress at The Foxy Lady. Stop by and “try before you buy” a bottle of wine at Siesta Key Tropical Wines. The Local Bean is coffee shop in paradise that supports local art, local venders, and serves an awesome cup of organic. fair-trade coffee. If you have a little extra time, drop in for a class at Studio Rubylake. The exercise studio has a noncompetitive, laid back and peaceful atmosphere focusing on working out for fun and relaxation, and releasing stress – and a Vacation Package: $25 for unlimited group classes for 7 days. One of my personal favorites is Siesta Key Bead Shack. This boutique sells hand crafted jewelry and beads, and you can even design your own jewelry.

Siesta Key Village becomes a popular nightlife spot after dark. If you’d like to enjoy a few drinks and listen to some live music then you’ll love the Siesta Key Oyster Bar, The Hub, or Gilligans. Are you looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner? Laid back, casual or fine dining? Japanese, Italian, Mexican or American? You’ll find such a wide variety of dining experiences here you wouldn’t even have to eat at the same restaurant twice during your visit – unless it becomes your favorite!
