Where is the best place to get sushi near Siesta Key, Sarasota, FL?
While visiting the #1 beach in the nation you might just work up a craving for some delicious fresh fish! If so, there are some spectacular Japanese restaurants in the area that will fulfill your hunger for sushi and provide the non-sushi lovers with a genuine Asian dining experience.
Jo-To Japanese Steakhouse:
Why leave Siesta Key when you can get amazing sushi as well as enjoy watching a hibachi chef cook your meal right before your eyes? Jo-To Japanese Steak House, located in Siesta Key Village, is the perfect place to enjoy a meal with family or a group of friends. The large hibachi tables create a fun communal atmosphere and the talented chefs show off their many tricks to entertain while cooking your mouth-watering food right in front of you. If you would prefer to enjoy your meal in quieter atmosphere, choose their beautifully tranquil dining room with comfy booths or for a more serene show of the culinary arts grab a stool at sushi bar and watch the masters at work.
Top recommended: Steak hibachi, gyoza appetizer and the volcano roll
Side note: part of the fun of staying and playing on Siesta Key are the FREE shuttle services from Tropical Beach Resorts directly to the Village. Be prepared with a little cash, as gratuities are how the drivers make their living… but the open-air ride from our front door to the destination of your choosing is priceless (especially when a few dollars a person is an appropriate tip). The kids will enjoy the trip and you will be happy to forgo the search for that perfect parking spot! You can indulge in a tropical cocktail or two with out the worry of driving back to your home-away-from-home.
Yume is located on Main Street in downtown Sarasota only 15 minutes from Siesta Key. This restaurant is widely known to locals as one of the best spots in town to enjoy Japanese dishes of all kinds, especially sushi! They have a wonderful atmosphere for family dinners, date nights, girls’ nights, anniversaries and more. If you are in a large group you will even get your sushi served to you in a boat. This award-winning restaurant is a hidden gem that is recognized for having the freshest fish and best service in town – a true local’s favorite. For all you sushi lovers vacationing in the area, Yume is worth the trip! And while your visiting our ever-expanding downtown area, be sure to take a stroll or drive and check out the wide variety of locally owned shops and specialty stores from art galleries to chic clothing boutiques to spice and cheese shops.
Top recommended: Lobster roll, seaweed salad, and grilled salmon with ginger sauce
Vizen Japanese Cuisine:
If you’re looking for that upscale-chic sushi experience don’t miss out on Vizen, located in the Gulf Gate area, a neighborhood just over the bridge and minutes from the key! Vizen is known for having innovative rolls with an artistic presentation and exquisitely fresh, top quality fish. The menu is a just tad more pricey than our other choices, but there are always creative new specials and top-notch service. Although dress code is not a term in any Sarasotan’s vocabulary… if you are looking for a place to wear your fancy new sundress then Vizen is your choice. The Gulf Gate area is worthy of its own full blog entry, but since this one is about our favorite sushi haunts let us just mention that you should certainly plan to have a cocktail in one of the local night spots that range from neighbor hood bars to the newest trendy hot-spots. If an adult beverage isn’t your choice for an after-dinner treat there are lots of other options from Jim’s Small Batch Pastries (best in town) to cupcakes or ice cream shops. This area is an ever-evolving eclectic spot for the locals to set up a small shop and share their talents with you.
Top recommended: smoked scallop, trico roll and rainbow roll

Sarasota is alive with exceptional blessings from Mother Nature. From one corner of the city to the next, the beauty and wonder of all that Mother Nature has created is bountiful. From the local flora to the local fauna, there are so many ways to take full advantage of being able to see these things that amaze and to make incredible memories.
Here are some of our favorite places to visit to experience the best that Sarasota has to offer:
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens: The Gardens are located in downtown Sarasota on the Bay. Their mission? “To provide an oasis of inspiration and tranquility, while furthering the understanding and appreciation of plants, especially epiphytes.” Now if that doesn’t sound like the perfect way to spend an afternoon, we don’t know what does. From the greenhouses to the immaculately maintained grounds, Selby Gardens is an experience you don’t want to miss. Sweeping views of the bay, brilliant aromas from the many plant species, wonderment from the stunning growth of the different trees, and tranquility from the peace and serenity of the property will take you away from the hustle and bustle. Allow several hours for this afternoon of enjoyment.
Myakka River State Park: Located just 9 miles from Sarasota and is one of Florida’s oldest and largest state parks. The Florida wild and scenic Myakka flows through 57 square miles of wetlands, prairies and woodlands. Myakka is popular for hiking, fishing, camping, and wildlife observation. One of its most popular types of wildlife observation is that of the Florida alligator! Many gators can be seen sunning and swimming around while being viewed from one of the world’s largest airboats, the Myakka Maiden or the Gator Gal. They can also be seen while just paddling through the streams by canoe, for those of you who are brave enough! There is also the Canopy Walkway. The walkway is suspended 25 feet above the ground and extends 100 feet through the hammock canopy. A tower soars 74 feet in the air to present a spectacular view of treetops, wetlands and the prairie/hammock interface. You can look down on eagles, hawks, vultures and the tops of live oaks and palm trees.
Manatee Viewing Center: Located about 1 hour North of Sarasota, the Manatee Viewing Center is located adjacent to the Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station. Everyone loves to see these gentle giants. When the water begins to get chillier, somewhere around 68 degrees, the manatees seek refuge in warmer waters. When the Big Bend Power station takes in saltwater from Tampa Bay to cool Unit 4, it is then discharged as clean and warm water, back to the bay. Big Bend’s discharge canal is a state and federally designated manatee sanctuary that provides critical protection from the cold for these unique, gentle animals.

What Are The Best Ways To Enjoy Nature While Staying At A Sarasota Hotel?
Sarasota is not only Florida’s cultural capital, but a tropical, nature wonderland as well. There are so many ways to explore the abounding beauty. Here are a few of our favorites.
Spend time on our world-famous beaches, renowned for their cool, powder white sands. If you’re lucky enough to be staying at a Sarasota hotel near the beach, you can spend your mornings strolling along the water’s edge with coffee in hand. You’ll find horse conch, lightning whelks, pink shrimp and seahorses in knee-deep water. Your companions will likely be gulls overhead, dolphins frolicking in the waters and sandpipers, oyster catchers and roseate spoonbills. Grab a fresh cup of coffee from the office or make some from the in-room coffee service and take a morning stroll. Enjoy the sunshine with your loved one and greet the day on Crescent Beach’s stellar sand. Walking hand in hand on World Famous Crescent Beach is the perfect way to start the day!
Go paddle boarding, a peaceful way to commune with our marvelous finned and feathered friends. It provides opportunities for discovering oyster beds, fish breeding areas and unspoiled, hidden pockets teeming with marine life. Dolphins are plentiful here; there’s a good chance you’ll see some playfully leaping nearby. You might even see the moon face of a manatee staring up at you in wonder. Paddle boarding with friends or family is such an incredible experience. You’ll feel a singular sense of inner peace and beauty. The power of the water and the force of the board through the surf is so magical. Seeing all the beautiful water and its surroundings will complete the aquatic adventure making memories that will last forever. For private lessons or Pilates Paddle board contact Studio RubyLakes.
Kayak the mangroves. Nothing can bring you closer to nature than kayaking our mysterious mangroves. A kayaking excursion can put you face to face with egrets, turns, wood storks, pelicans, dolphins, manatee and other wildlife. What you see you will treasure with your heart. Rentals are available for ocean kayaking as well from the hotel’s beach service on the beach access. http://youtu.be/y4w__Ua139E
Rent a bicycle. Siesta Key’s bike path starts at the south end on Midnight Pass Road and goes up to the North Bridge. It’s a very safe, refreshing and enjoyable way to see the area. The 2013 Holiday Season is truly upon us. With Thanksgiving a bit later in the calendar year, the crunch time between now and Christmas is shorter than ever, putting that much more pressure on for holiday shopping and preparation overall. How can we squeeze so much into such a short time? Retailers are scrambling as well as family members to get all the necessary shopping and decorating done. But let’s not forget the true meaning of the holiday season, recognizing the family togetherness and religious aspects that are truly what the season is all about.
Maybe it’s time to make new traditions, different activities and meanings to the holiday season. Ones that do not have to do with ‘Black Friday’ or ‘Cyber Monday.’ Those sure sound scary and not fun to me! Take a moment to sit back and really reflect on what the true reason for the season is! To give thanks for all the blessings that we have, to be with friends and family, and to cherish these special times making memories that will last for years to come.
Here at Tropical Beach Resorts, we are a local family-owned establishment. With deep roots in the community and our churches, we take great pride in what we stand for as a business. Our commitments to the church, our families and our businesses are all that we have to reflect upon to see how we have effected those around us. We strive to be the best and friendliest hotel on Siesta Key, with emphasis on kindness, understanding and respect for all. We truly care for all of our guests and wish that all experiences here at Tropical Beach Resorts are the best that they can be and that we offered the finest product around. With that said, we are truly thankful for the opportunities that we have had and hope to continue with a successful, growing small business that leaves a significant mark on the community and other people’s lives.
In closing, we are thankful for all our guests, our families, and for God being our guidance through all. Take a deep breath of that beautiful salty, Siesta Key air and talk about what you are thankful for. Wishing all of you and yours an amazing holiday season.Tropical Beach Resorts 6717 Sarasea Circle Sarasota, FL 34242 941-349-3330
